Hubble has taken some astonishing photos of the planets in our galaxy, which has given scientists even more information about them.
Mercury
Mercury is the hottest planet, being that it is closest to the sun. In fact, Mercury is so hot that Hubble has given scientists their only opportunity to see Mercury. Gravity is very different on Mercury. If you weigh seventy pounds on Earth, you would weigh only about 27 pounds on Mercury. Mercury is named after the Greek God Hermes.
Venus
Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. Venus is named after the Greek Goddess of love and beauty. Just like Mercury, Venus is also too hot for astronauts to explore. Apart from the obvious differences in heat, Venus is so similar to Earth that it is called earth's sister planet. If you weighed 70 pounds on earth then you would weigh 63 pounds on Venus. Venus also has no moons.
Earth
Earth is the third planet from the sun. Earth has one moon and it iss the planet that we know the most about because we live on Earth. Earth is nicknamed the goldilocks planet because Earth is not too hot and not too cold and as far as we know we are the only advanced life forms in the galaxy (personally I think we can't be alone in the galaxy but now is not the time for theorizing about aliens)
Mars
Mars is the fourth planet from the sun and has two moons. Mars was named after the Roman God of War and Agriculture. Mars is called the rusty planet because it is red and rusty looking. Just like Mercury, If you weighed 70 pounds on Earth, you would weigh about 27 pounds on Mars.
Jupiter
Jupiter is my favorite planet of all. It's my favourite because of its red spot Jupiter's red spot is an enormous electrical storm that rages indefinitely. Jupiter was named after the Greek Good Zeus in Greek mythology. Jupiter's gravity is very different than Earth's. If you weigh 70 pounds on Earth, on Jupiter you would weigh 185 pounds. Jupiter is massive! Earth could fit inside Jupiter more than 1000 times. Jupiter has 62 moons.
Uranus
Uranus was named after the Lord of the Skies. It has 27 moons and If you weighed 70 pounds on Earth, you would weigh 62 pounds on Uranus. Uranus is the sixth planet from the sun it was also the first planet discovered by a telescope. Uranus takes 84 Earth years to rotate once around the sun.
Neptune
Neptune is the seventh planet from the sun and is named after the God of water and Sea. If you weigh 70 pounds on the Earth, you would weigh 78.5 pounds on Neptune. Neptune has six gorgeous rings and 13 moons that we know about. It is possible there are more moons but we haven't seen all of the planet yet.
